MSNBC – Miracle Baby

Had another great assignment from MSNBC last week and wanted to share a few pictures with you. Jason and his wife, Jennifer have been trying to have a baby for two years and became hopeless after they found out Jason was not producing sperm. After a testicular biopsy, the doctors found one sperm that they injected into Jennifer’s harvested egg. The egg became fertilized through in vitro fertilization and the doctors returned the single embryo back into Jennifer, which gave them their daughter, Kenley in April 2011. Jennifer couldn’t believe their one last chance of having a baby through in vitro fertilization actually worked, she said it was like “winning the lottery, but even better”. They are the only family in the United States that has had any success with only one egg and one sperm left.

Pruning The Trees

Dave came by the house today and removed a few trees in tough places. He isn’t the traditional lumberman who cuts from the ground, he actually climbs up into the trees. He is one of the few in our area who does it and I hope to do a project on him this spring. Here are some select images. I strapped a GoPro to his head to get some “in the tree” action and will post that video soon.

A Year in Review: 2011

I want to bring in 2012 with a quick look back over 2011. I shot a great amount of images from finishing up my last few quarters at RIT and at my internship at Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Near the end of the year, I focused more on video and produced a music video for Mouth Wired Shut and began pre-production with two sets of directors/producers on numerous films starting in 2012. Looking forward, I hope to accomplish in 2012 is working on my own self-produced/directed film, working on a paid union film in Cleveland, have a successful summer with weddings/senior portraits, and advertise my editorial work to more publications locally and nationally. If all goes well, I will have another great year in review in 2013! Enjoy your 2012 and leave a comment or like this post!

MSNBC – ADHA Shortage

My first assignment with MSNBC led me to Kate Skinn of Sheffield Lake, Ohio. She and her family take various prescribed drugs in order to control their ADHD and ADD. Skinn has found recently it has been very difficult to acquire these medications and does everything she can to provide for her family. Skinn frequently takes a lower dose of her medications to stockpile the pills for drastic situations where she needs them. Her boyfriend takes medication to control his ADD and her son takes medicine for his ADHD. Overall, it was a great opportunity meeting Kate and her family and working with MSNBC.

Look into Mouth Wired Shut’s “My Generation” Video

In the past two months, I have worked very closely with Joey Ariemma and his band, Mouth Wired Shut on their debut release for their new EP. Joey came to me with the idea of doing a music video for the song, My Generation. When I first heard the song, I realized I wanted to focus the direction of the video on texting and incorporate a live shot featuring some sort of additional technology mixed in. This was my first real music video production where I worked on everything; directing, shooting, and editing.

When we started shooting back in September, Joey and I knew we wanted a scene to be in a classroom with people texting and not paying attention to the band being projected on a screen. I really wanted this scene to be the driving force behind the video moving the story along until you reach the solo section about 2/3 into the song. We wanted a transformation to happen at the solo, so I suggested the band comes off the screen and into the people’s lives. I wanted this to convey that our generation is so invested into our cell phones and technology that we lose the human connection of communication. In the end, Mouth Wired Shut comes into the classroom and they tear it up throughout the rest of the song. It is seen as a liberation from the technology.

The live band shot was a simple idea, I wanted to have TV’s on static to create a simple backdrop for the live scene. Although the main focus of the video was about texting and being inside that classroom, I wanted to connect another element of technology into the live shot of the band. It also provided to be a visually interesting backdrop throughout the video. I took the idea one step further and put Joey and the band next to TV’s to create a dynamic 2 dimensional image in a video.
